Interested in playing American Football?

If you are a student on an HND course or higher at the University of Plymouth or one of it's affiliate colleges on either a full time or part time course then you are eligible to play!

We will be at the sport federation fair, on sunday the 27th of September. You will need an nus card and a sports card before this point to sign up (this handles your insurance etc) then we will be having a admin session on the tuesday to get everyones details etc, a social on the wednesday so people can meet each other and then minicamp on the saturday (3rd october) where you can try the sport and see how you get on.

For the admin session please bring the following:

  1. Your library card or something which has your student number on it. Typically this is an 8 digit number eg. 20001720
  2. Your NUS card. Yes, we will have seen this already but it saves time when filling in forms to have it with you.
  3. A passport photo. The British Universities American Football League requires all players to be photo registered.
  4. A pen and some paper. You will need to make some notes of dates etc - though we hope to have this all on the website too!

Admin is a pain in the bum but if we don't do it we can't get you playing in time! Ask a couple of the returning players (looking at you James Bell) who had to wait a couple of games before they were able to play! All because they missed the deadline to register... Don't let disorganisation prevent you from playing!

If you want to know more about the sport, then please visit our downloads section and read the beginners guide, this will tell you everything you need to know about positions, scoring and how the game is played.

American Football is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK in terms of popularity this is due in a large part to the fast hard hitting action and to the ability to specialise in your area of choice. Don't be put off by thinking "I'm not big enough" either! - sure we have players who top 6'5 and weigh 300lbs but we also have players who start every game who are 5'7 and weigh less than 145lbs! An example of how size doesn't really matter in this game is Darren Sproles (who weighs in at 180 and is only 5'6 tall!) see the video below:
